About Arkland
Arkland Landscape Construction is a Bay Area landscape construction company that improves, rebuilds and builds landscapes for homes and commercial properties across the San Francisco Peninsula, South Bay, East Bay and Marin. Owner Joel Lopez grew the company from a two-person operation into a full team of experienced crews, and we take care of every yard as if it were our own.

Questions about Bay Area landscaping
How much does landscaping cost in the Bay Area?
It depends on the size of the area, the materials you choose and how much site work comes first. Demolition, grading, drainage and retaining walls add cost before anything new goes in, and hardscape usually costs more than planting. Arkland gives you an estimate after a free consultation at your property, and budgets on our estimate form run from under $10k to $500k+.
How do I choose a landscape contractor in the Bay Area?
Choose a licensed contractor whose past work, reviews and communication you trust. Look up the license on the Contractors State License Board website, cslb.ca.gov, read reviews on more than one platform, and ask to see projects like yours. Arkland is licensed under California Contractor License #1017855, and you can read our reviews on Google, Yelp and Thumbtack.
Do landscapers need a license in California?
Yes, for most jobs: California requires a contractor license for work worth $1,000 or more in labor and materials, work that needs a building permit, or work done with employees. The landscaping license class is the C-27, issued by the Contractors State License Board. Arkland Landscape Construction is licensed and insured, and you can check any contractor's license at cslb.ca.gov.
How long does a landscaping project take?
It depends on the scope: a planting refresh and a full backyard rebuild are very different jobs. Permits, materials and site conditions like drainage or slopes shape the schedule, and big projects take longer; one client's full remodel of a one-acre Almaden property took about a year. Arkland talks through timing with you when we go over your estimate, and keeps you updated while the work is underway.
Do you take on small landscaping projects?
Often, yes: Arkland has no single minimum project size, because it depends on the work and where the property is. Tell us what you have in mind, and we'll give you a straight answer. We give honest advice on every project, even small ones, and if a job isn't the right fit for our crews, we'll tell you up front so you can plan your next step.
